Password Security Best Practices

Strong passwords are your first and most important layer of defense against unauthorized access. Whether you’re logging into your Client Portal, Virtualmin, or Webmail, following these best practices helps protect your hosting account and personal data.

Creating a Strong Password:
• Use at least 10–12 characters (longer is better).
• Mix uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols.
• Avoid common words, names, or patterns (like password123 or welcome2025).
• Never reuse passwords from other websites or services.
• Consider using a password manager (such as Bitwarden, 1Password, or KeePass) to generate and store strong passwords securely.

Changing Passwords Regularly:
• Update important passwords every 6–12 months — sooner if you suspect compromise.
• Change your password immediately after removing old staff or when granting new access.
• Don’t reuse old passwords — choose something completely new each time.
• If you use a password manager, it can remind you when it’s time to rotate credentials.

Recognizing Compromised Accounts:
• Unexpected login alerts or password reset emails you didn’t request.
• Missing or unread emails marked as opened.
• Website changes or settings updates you didn’t make.
• If you notice any of these signs, change your password immediately and contact KellerNetwork Support.

Additional Security Tips:
• Always check for https:// and the lock icon 🔒 before logging in.
• Log out when finished, especially on shared or public computers.
• Never share your password through email or text — KellerNetwork will never ask for it.
• If offered, enable two-factor authentication (2FA) for extra protection.
