Understanding Your Hosting Resources

When you log in to Virtualmin, you’ll notice several status bars and usage meters on the dashboard. These show important information about your hosting resources, such as disk space, memory, and bandwidth. Understanding what each means can help you keep your account running smoothly and avoid performance issues.

Key Resource Indicators:
Disk Space: The total amount of storage used by your website files, databases, and email accounts. If this reaches 100%, new uploads, backups, or emails may fail until space is freed.
Bandwidth: The total amount of data transferred between your site and visitors for the current billing period. This resets each month automatically.
Memory (RAM): The amount of temporary memory your hosted applications and processes are using. If you’re running a CMS like WordPress, higher memory usage is normal but should stay within limits.
CPU Usage: Indicates how much processing power your site is currently using. Spikes are normal during backups or heavy traffic, but consistent high usage may require optimization or a plan upgrade.
Email Quotas: Shows how much mailbox space is being used per account. Full mailboxes can prevent new messages from being delivered.

Where to View Resource Usage:
1. Log in to your Virtualmin dashboard.
2. Select your domain from the drop-down menu at the top-left.
3. The main dashboard will display your usage summary bars.
4. For detailed stats, go to System Information under the Webmin section.
5. You can refresh the page at any time to see the latest values.

Tips for Managing Resources:
• Regularly clear out old backups or unused files to free disk space.
• Use image optimization tools on your website to reduce bandwidth usage.
• Set mailbox limits in Edit Users to prevent a single account from using all available storage.
• If your site grows or traffic increases, contact KellerNetwork Support to discuss resource upgrade options.

Next Steps:
• Learn how to interpret your usage data by reviewing “Cleaning Up Old Backups and Logs to Free Space.”
• Continue to “Email Essentials” to manage mailbox storage and passwords efficiently.
